Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Here's how to get to DC for the big day:

PLANES
Three airports service the DC area. I am biased and only like to fly in to DCA because it's the closest but you'll find the other two have their benefits in terms of airlines that service them and ticket prices.
1) Reagan National Airport (DCA) - Closest to the hotel and church (3.5 miles). From here you can take a taxi ($15 - $20), complimentary hotel shuttle (every 30 minutes for Sheraton National Hotel guests), or super shuttle ($14 one way). If you aren't staying at the Sheraton National you can take the Metro (Blue/Yellow Lines) to/from other hotels.

2) Dulles International Airport (IAD) - 27 miles from hotel/church. Taxi ($55 - $60), Super Shuttle ($29 one way), Washington Flyer services the West Falls Church Metro - Orange Line ($10 one way).

3) Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) - 39 miles from hotel/church. Taxi ($100), Super Shuttle ($46 one way), Marc Train to Union Station in DC

TRAINS
DC's Union Station services all AMTRAK Trains is located on the Red Line Metro (in the direction of Shady Grove) from which you can transfer at Metro Center to the Blue Line in the direction of Franconia/Springfield exiting at Pentagon City for the complimentary shuttle to the Sheraton National (runs every 30 minutes).

AUTOMOMBILES
Road Trip!...Or not ;) Overnight parking is available for a fee. For those only parking for the wedding and not staying overnight it is complimentary. For driving directions click here.

Registries

We (or rather I) had fun picking items for the registry with that little gun. Daniel liked that they had snacks for you at Crate and Barrel :)

I found a site that combines all your registries in to one easy place:

They're Here...

I started working with a very cool designer on these Save The Dates (STD) right after we got engaged. Now that the date is finalized we were ready to print - woo hoo! And here they are...very pink! But I love'em and I LOVE cupcakes :) Soo happy Daniel is cool with them being so girly. Can't wait to work on creating the invites, programs, place cards, and menus next! Dining and Dancing

I love the saying "eat, drink, be married"...so that's what we'll be doing at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel (formerly Sheraton National) next July. Our reception will take place on the top floor in the Galaxy Ballroom. This was our top choice during the site visits. We're looking forward to a great party!

Save The Date

Phew! The long wait for the church is over. We finally got a confirmation email that the church is available Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:30pm for our catholic wedding ceremony. For anyone looking to have a catholic wedding in a military church be prepared for a lot of paperwork and hoop jumping.

The church will undergo renovations in October 2011 but I'm faithful they'll be done by July 2012.

Now all the planning can begin!

Wedding Cake...Nom!

Since we have a little extra time before Daniel leaves, we decided to do our wedding cake tasting this weekend. Heidelberg Bakery is one of our favorites and also happens to be the preferred bakery of the Sheraton National.

I've always said I knew Daniel was the one for me because I found someone who loves dessert as much as I do ;) Well we didn't want him to miss out on the fun and yummy part of cake tasting.

We tried three flavors - vanilla with straberry jam, chocolate with vanilla frosting, and vanilla with chocolate mousse filling. The surprising winner was chocolate with vanilla frosting. So the outside will look traditional but the inside will be good!

We're thinking square with swiss dots, no flowers.

The Ring

Our friend Angel was kind enough to take some "professional" photos of the ring. I love it!

Where my girls at?

They all said yes to the dress! I am so excited to have Belinda, Kate, Molly, Sara and Leah join me on the special day.

If you are looking for a cool way to ask someone to be your bridesmaid, you can try these cards from Little Lady Company on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleLadyCompany?ref=seller_info

She can personalize each one with your bridesmaid's name too!

It Is official

On a clear night on a boat in the middle of the Potomac with the monuments in the background, the ring is presented, the question asked and the answer given. Sometime in mid-2012, after I have returned from my Army deployment, we will have our wedding somewhere in Arlington.
